Another winner from Morgan Daimler. Though my complaint with these kinds of books will always remain the same [I WANT LONGER BOOKS!!!] but with the same simplicity of the Pagan Portals books.Apart from the Introduction, Conclusion and 2 Appendices the book is made up of six chapters.Chapter One: Meeting Brigid – In this chapter the author discusses Brigid’s relationships (who her parents might be, her husband, her children), associations (the other Brigids from the different Celtic cultures), and the many Brigids (Is Brigid one deity, three deities, or six deities?).Chapter Two: Brigid by Other Names – In this chapter we start getting into the nitty gritty of Brigid. Daimler takes a look at Brigid in Celtic cultures. She starts with Gaul, goes on to England, then Scotland, then Wales, and then she discusses the Pagan Goddess and Catholic Saint.Chapter Three: Brigid in Mythology – In this chapter Morgan takes us on a tour of the sources. She talks about where we can find Brigid not just in Irish materials but also in Scottish, Welsh, and Manx materials. I especially liked this chapter because I found myself looking up the materials mentioned and everyone knows how much I love discovering new (to me) sources.Chapter Four: Symbols, Animals and Holidays – As the title of the chapter tells us, it talks about symbols, animals and holidays associated with Brigid. I also like that the author added in a section on divination because I’m always on the lookout for information on that.Chapter Five: The Goddess in Modern Times – Flame-tending, offerings, altars, modern myths and a guided meditation are all things you will find in this chapter.Chapter Six: Prayers, Chants and Charms – Apart from chapters two and three, this is my favourite chapter. I’m always looking for new prayers to add to my daily routines and this chapter did not disappoint, there is something in there for everyone.This is a well written and well researched book, but that is what I always know is going to happen when I see Morgan Daimler’s name on a book. The text is something that anyone can pick up and read without any background knowledge and come out of it with more than they bargained for. But it is not just a book for newbies, it is also a book that someone who has been worshipping Brigid for a long time can pick up and learn something from or just brush up on something they may have forgotten. As with all of Morgan’s books she adds a touch of herself by giving us an insight into her own practice when worshipping Brigid, and truth be told this is one of my absolute favourite things in Morgan’s books. She is certainly brave in sharing her UPG with the reader and opening herself to criticism from the people who don’t agree with her (or heck with the ones that do but don’t agree with one of her interpretations!).This is a great resource for anyone interested in Brigid and wants to learn about Her or unpack all that they have read about Her in books and websites.
Ive read a lot of the book out there about Brigid, most talk primarily about the saint, other have modern interpretations which have little to do with the actual myths, but where all those others fail this book shines! Best book out there about Brigid as a goddess, good solid information and good resources. If you read nothing else about Brigid, read this one.
Morgan Daimler is easily becoming my favorite author on the craft. She packs these books FULL of her knowledge from her own experiences and well known and respected resources. Between her 2 books on fairycraft, her overflowing knowledge of especially Irish folklore and the Goddesses, The Morrigan and Brigid and the Gods and Goddesses honored within fairycraft I am learning more than I ever have about the craft. I'm not disregarding my own experiences thus far.. although I am understanding and processing many experiences more clearly through Morgan's writings and shared knowledge. She has a way with words and sharing her wisdom in a very straight to the point manner, meaning and matter. She is a fabulous teacher.
This was the very first book in detail, that I have ever read personally regarding our Mother Brigid.As my patron Goddess, I found it high time to learn why she calls to me so.Morgan Daimler gives an introduction of Brigid in her many forms. Opening th hearts of many, Christian and Pagan alike.I love that she not only gives us the history that is still available, but also shares with us they mysteries still shrouded by lack of evidence. I also love that she shares her own experiences with her interactions with my Beloved.Thank you, ma'am, for such inspiration.
An excellent piece of pagan literature! Daimler offers more than just a basic look at this quintessential Irish goddess; she delves into the poetry, prayers and history that give us real insight into how our ancestors may have seen this goddess. Small, succinct and well written, this is a must have in both a devotional sense and an educational sense for anybody curious about the nature of Irish paganism and Irish gods. I highly recommend this book for both beginners and advanced devotees. A must have for any pagan book collection.
This book is a great way to see and experience the depth and complexity of Brighid as a goddess or a saint. It's well researched and scholastic without ever being boring. It includes a wide range of ways of going about understanding Brigid, animals, places, folklore, names, myths and personal anedotes so you can build or enhance your own practise with her. There is also a nice section of poems and prayers in the back to get you started.
I've been aching for a book that could provide me with good references and a jumping off point to deepen my relationship with Brigid. This was that and so much more. For such a short book, it packs in a lot of information. I appreciated Morgan sharing her personal experiences as well. It's something I enjoy from others in the community.
This was a good read, a very quick intro your book on Brigid. I would recommend if you are getting started with her. It was a bit drier language than I like, but overall a good read.
